How to Break Free from Procrastination and Study More Effectively

“Your habits will determine your future” - Jack Canfield

Overview

As students, we often find ourselves doing other things when we claim we would be studying. It can be very challenging to get into the zone when we have the internet or other distractions. We can often find ourselves saying, “I'll do it after another episode/video.” Here today, I will help you get out of these habits.

Step 1: Gather Materials

List out what you will be doing and gather all the materials you will need to do those things. (Gum is optional, but it helps you remember things better!)

Step 2: Find a Place

Any area with a calm atmosphere, and limited distractions that isn’t your room. (If there is no other place but your room, do not work on your bed).

Step 3: Find Good Music

Put on classical music or jazz to relax your nerves. Party music can also help some people (but not many!)

Step 4: Turn Your Phone on Silent mode

If you have an iPhone, you can make a focus that allows only certain contacts to be able to contact you. For those who have Androids, silent mode is just fine.

Step 5: Set Time Limit

Approximate how long each task will take you to complete, if you have over an hour’s worth of work, set 5 minute breaks between each 30 minutes of work.

Conclusion

There are many ways to help with studying, since not everyone has the same learning techniques. But all of them will tell you to limit your screen time and distractions. Procrastination hasn’t gotten anyone anywhere, so don’t think it will work for you!
